ABOUT

THE NATURE OF FRAGILE THINGS

My work is inspired by natural elements and the fragility of nature. Themes are often influenced by spontaneous processes that echo nature's evolving character. I'm especially interested in the interactions of materials that evolve and respond naturally to specific timing, environmental conditions and reactions. This interaction deepens my understanding and appreciation of nature. Through processes that are immersive and promote a sense of connection for me.

Exploration and discovery inspire my experimental approach. Thoughts gathered on journeys are materialised through weathered surfaces and organic shapes and forms that are revealed through layered media. I'm intrigued by the idea that layers found in shadows, surfaces, water or reflections can be translated physically or metaphorically. Allowing me to interpret ideas with the help of nature as a metaphor.

Since completing a BA(Hons) 1st Class Degree in Design at Wrexham University of Wales in 2001 I have worked on various creative projects. Recently finding the opportunity to develop work from my home studio, which is where I find most of my inspiration. Along the hiking trails of the mountains, woodlands and coastal areas of North Wales.
